HomeGuardian's Ultimate Glossary

4G/5G Solution

The 4G/5G Solution is the Wi-Fi router provided by HomeGuardian.AI to assist those without an active internet connection to access HomeGuardian products. 

ACH (Assistance with Care and Housing)

Assistance with Care and Housing (ACH) is an initiative offered as part of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme to assist those at risk of homelessness.

Acute Incident

An acute incident is a serious or severe occurrence experienced by an individual. An example of an acute incident is a slip, trip or fall.

Aged Care Quality & Safety Standards

The Aged Care Quality & Safety Standards are set out by the Aged Care Quality & Safety Commission. They dictate how Aged Care Providers are to implement and maintain the Commission’s standards.


An alarm is a loud noise, bright light or otherwise attention-grabbing alert. An example of an alarm would be an activated pendant that sounds like a siren.

Alert Cycle

An Alert Cycle refers to the phases that HomeGuardian goes through to detect, recognise and alert incidents.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a computer and data-based program that works similar to a human brain. HomeGuardian’s technology utilises this AI technology to examine an environment for abnormalities.

Assistance Initiatives

Assistance Initiatives are schemes set out by the Australian Government to provide financial or physical (assistance around the home etc.) help to those who are eligible.

Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology refers to adaptive, functional and/or rehabilitative technological aids and devices that increase independence and quality of life for people with disabilities and the elderly.

Audio Sensor

An audio sensor is an addition to HomeGuardian devices which allow them to recognise coughing, sneezing and other audio that may indicate the onset of illness. 

Automatic Escalation

Automatic Escalation is the act of creating an alert without activation. HomeGuardian will send a notification (message, phonecall, push notification, WhatsApp) to up to 3 emergency contacts by itself, within 2 seconds of recognising an acute incident like a fall.


Award-Winning refers to HomeGuardian and our CEO Kane Sajdak who have collectively won Young Entrepreneur or the Year, Outstanding Leadership, Emerging & Micro Business and Gold Coast Business Excellence awards.


Bluetooth is a secure, short-range wireless interconnection between devices. HomeGuardian and Click! Communicate via a secure Bluetooth connection - a short-range wireless interconnection between the devices.

CHSP (Commonwealth Home Support Programme

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is an initiative run by the Australian Government to assist seniors in maintaining their independence while living at home.

Care Industry

The Care Industry refers to Aged Care and Disability facilities and residences, as well as Hospital at Home and other related environments. 


A carer is someone who assists in looking after an elderly person or person with a disability to perform activities and maintain wellbeing.

Circular Sensor

A Circulat Sensor is the round area at top of the HomeGuardian device that allows the artificial intelligence to “see” an environment. The Circular Sensor is not a recoding camera and does not have image capture capabilities.


Click! Is the previous name of HomeGuardian’s alert button. It’s a duress button that works within 30 metres of the closest HomeGuardian device.


A Dashboard is a homepage on a portal, website or application. In HomeGuardian’s User Portal and App, the dashboard gives you an overview of your device, fall trends and general data.


Data refers to information collected by the HomeGuardian device that indicates fall histord trends. This information is treated as secure and private by HomeGuardian.

Duress Button

A Duress Button is a button that is pressed when an individual is experiencing an emergency or is in distress. 

Emergency Contact

An Emergency Contact is between 1 and 3 people that HomeGuardian devices will contact via text, phone, push notification or WhatsApp notification in the event of a fall.


A Facility is a disability or Aged Care environment where individuals live in a building or area where carers are able to access and assist them.

Facility Portal

The Facility Portal is HomeGuardian’s User Portal which has been configured for use by Facility staff, allowing them to securely view more in-depth data about facility residents. 

Fall Care

Fall Care is an action that is taken after a fall has taken place. The action can be both medical and preventative.

Fall Detection

Fall Detection is a capability of the HomeGuardian device whereby the device’s sensors recognise if someone is on the floor and/or has fallen.

Fall Mat

A Fall Mat is a small rug-like floor product that creates an alert if someone falls on it. These items are commonly placed near a bed.

Fall Risk

Fall Risk refers to factors that may make an individual more susceptible to falling. An example of a Fall Risk could be a medication change, or a trip hazard.

Fall Trends

Fall Trends refers to secure data that is available in the HomeGuardian User Portal. This information visually shows the time and frequency of an individual’s falls as detected by the HomeGuardian device.

Fully Automatic

Fully Automatic means that no manual activation (like button pressing) is required in the event of an incident. HomeGuardian recognises falls and starts the emergency alert process by itself.

Government Initiatives

Government Initiatives are Subsidies, help programs and other assistance plans provided by the Australian Government.


A Hazard is something that may enhance an individual’s fall risk. Hazards can come in the form of environmental (like smoke), physical (like an injury), or trip (like clutter).

HG Connect

HG Connect is an internet/Wi-Fi connectivity option for HomeGuardian devices upon installation and set-up.


HomeGuardian is an award-winning, leading-edge fall detection and automatic escalation assistive technology device that monitors for unseen falls and other acute incidents.

HomeGuardian App

The HomeGuardian app, which is available on both Apple and Android devices, is a mobile version of the HomeGuardian User Portal.

Home Care Package (HCP)

A Home Care Package (HCP) is a support initiative offered by the Australian Government to those over 65 years of age.


A Hub is a singular area to access data and other information - like the HomeGuardian User Portal for example.

Human Activation

Human Activation refers to the act of manually starting an alert process, like pushing a button for example.


An Incident is an abnormal and commonly negative occurrence that is often detrimental to a person’s health or well-being.


Independent refers to living at home, or without the need for constant care.


Infrared is an often invisible sensor that activates at night to read an environment, or, is used to track movement or incidents in a certain key area.


A Lanyard is a necklace-style, fabric neck holder that comes with HomeGuardian alert button (formerly Click!) devices to allow for easy wear.


LED is a dim and non-obtrusive light on HomeGuardian and alert button (Click!) devices that shows device status.

Level of Care

Level of Care refers to the quality of care and attention given by care staff in a health or facility environment.

Living at Home

Living at Home refers to remaining in a private residence as opposed to moving to an Aged Care or disability facility.

Manual Alert

Manual Alerts are button-presses that create an alarm or require another kind of human activation to process assistance requests. 


Monitoring is a view of the room, seen by artificial intelligence in a similar way to a human brain, allowing the device to recognise abnormalities.

Movement Sensors (PIR)

Movement Sensors (referred to often as PIR) are sensors or alarms that trigger an alert if movement is discovered, like if a resident leaves their room, for example.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government Initiative that assists people with disabilities.


Non-invasive refers to privacy-protected, non-body contact and secure monitoring performed by HomeGuardian devices. 

On the Edge

On the edge refers to alerts that are processed on the HomeGuardian device. Essentially, when we say that our devices process alerts ‘on the edge’, we’re talking about the fact that your information isn’t leaving the device. This not only makes the device more private and secure, but it also ensures your data isn’t being viewed by a third party.


On-demand refers to 24/7 accessibility at the user’s discretion. This term refers to the HomeGuardian User Portal and App which can be accessed on-demand.

Onset of Illness

Onset of Ilness refers to early illness symptoms like coughing and sneezing.


Optimise/Optimisation is referring to an upgrade, personalisation or similar tweak to the device to suit an individual’s preferences. 


Passive means a device or program is operating in a subtle way that means it’s not immediately noticeable both visibly and audibly.


A patent is an exclusive right granted to a piece of technology as an original concept and invention. HomeGuardian is patented in this regard.


PERS, or Personal Emergency Response System, often refers to a button that is pressed in an emergency.

Post-Fall Care

Post-Fall Care is actions to be taken after a fall by an individual. These actions are a means for an individual to look after themselves after the incident.


Privacy is a state where an individual is not disrupted in a personal or intimate way by anyone else. HomeGuardian is private.

QR Code

A QR Code is a square-shaped data code which, when viewed by a smart-phone camera, will create a redirection to a specific website. Often used in HomeGuardian set-up.

Quick Start Guide

The Quick Start Guide is a small information booklet supplied with HomeGuardian devices containing information on the device operation.

Real-time Data

Real-time Data is information communicated instantly between HomeGuardian devices and the Facility Portal. Real-time means that the data can be viewed ‘on the spot’.


Rechargeables are devices that require recharging either via power or battery.

Registered Provider

A Registered Provider is NDIS accredited. This means they are bound by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to deliver support to NDIS participants. HomeGuardian is an NDIS Registered Provider.


A Resident is an individual living in an Aged Care or Disability facility, or someone living in their own home.


The Router is a 4G/5G solution offered by HomeGuardian.Ai which enables those without an active internet connection in their environment to create the secure Wi-Fi signal on which HomeGuardian devices operate.

SIM Card

A SIM Card is a small data-holding card which enables the Wi-Fi in the HomeGuardian routers. 

SOS Alarm

SOS Alarms are often press-buttons, that create a siren-like noise to indicate distress, or communicate with health/police authorities/emergency contacts.


Secure refers to a low risk of data hacking or interception, with no images or videos stored on the device. 

Smart Watch

A Smart Watch is a watch that is mainly optimised to contain a range of advanced programming including text messages, alarms, pedometers etc.

Staff Shortages

Staff Shortages refers to Aged Care industry staff shortages as reported by the Royal Commission.


Stationary means non-moving, and unnecessary to be relocated.

Status Light

A Status Light is a small 1cm LED light located below a HomeGuardian device’s circular sensor which shines different colours which indicate the device’s status.


A Subsidy is a payment plan and/or scheme offered by the Australian Government.


Support refers to care, financial help, or physical help provided by an individual or organisation. Can also refer to the proactive role that HomeGuardian plays in helping individuals to maintain their independence. 


Surveillance refers to image, video or audio streaming or viewing by a third party. HomeGuardian does not utilise surveillance.

Third-Party Installation

Third-Party Installation refers to a contractor or organisation that installs devices in exchange for payment. HomeGuardian does not require third-party organisation and is able to be easily installed by an individual.

Trend Reporting

Trend Reporting refers to fall trends (rate/frequency) reported by HomeGuardian devices via secure channels into the User Portal for individuals to access at any time.


A Tripod is a three-pronged sturdy stand that comes with all HomeGuardian devices, allowing them to be mounted and angled appropriately for best available fall detection and escalation.


Unseen can also mean unnoticed, and can refer to an incident that may go unassessed, whereby an individual may not receive the help they deserve.


A USB is a small plug located on the back of a HomeGuardian device where the single power plug can be connected to the device.

User Portal

The User Portal is a secure, personal and private website accessible to HomeGuardian owners where they can view their data, fall trends, and device optimisation options.


Waterproof refers to HomeGuardian’s alert button (formerly Click!) device, which is splash-proof, allowing it to be placed in the shower. It is not suitable for swimming or submersion. 


Wearables are alarms, PERS or related items that need to be worn and/or carried by an individual at all times.

Wall/Roof Mount

The Wall/Roof Mount is an optional add-on for HomeGuardian customers who wish to secure their HomeGuardian device to the wall or roof for optimised fall detection, and lower risk of bumping/accidentally unplugging the device.


Wi-Fi is an internet signal which is able to sustain a connection between a router and a Wi-Fi enabled device.
